---Are raisins good to have after the gym?
(JA KAZEM)---yes, actually, they are the best sugar you can take after working out.
The sugar they have, dextrose, replenishes your muscles better than any other.

---If my knowledge serves me correctly, raisins contain 50% fructose and 50% glucose. I know that they are almost 75% sugar by weight (~50 grams have about 30-35 grams of sugar), and I am pretty sure that raisins, which are essentially dried grapes, are chiefly fructose fruits. Anyway, they are a good post workout food IMO. I personally don't get all caught up in what sugars are present, so long as SOME sugar (which supplies quick glucose) is in it. They are also high in antioxidants and fiber, so they sure are not BAD by any means.
---If you wanna know the specifics, raisins are:
50.1% fructose
46.8% glucose
3.1% sucrose (which is fructose+glucose)
They're not ideal but they work...
---LOL damn...I was close anyway. I didnt know that they had sucrose units too...so we have ourselves a small percentage of disaccharides also. Anyway, sucrose ultimately breaks down into fructose and glucose anyway, so like you said they may not be perfect, but what is? Good info.
---Well I just don't think fructose is good post-workout because it doesn't help restore muscle glycogen. It's good for energy... not much else. Something with a higher percentage of dextrose/glucose, or something with a higher molecular weight, e.g. waxy maize starch, would be more ideal.
